Has anyone ever seen strange shapes or things when they have just woken up?

When sleeping on my back i find it hard to sleep but the few times I've managed it.
This is when it mostly happens, i'd wake up later and just as i'm conscience of my environment i'd see something flying above me or near by in my room - this consisted of a:

* White spider
* Black cat
* Colourful crown
* Colourful butterfly
* Tangled strings
* White fairy
* Dark Cloud

All levitated and would still be there when i focus on it as if it's there without my imagination. As soon i reach out to touch it, switch on the light or wait for a few seconds - it vanishes and everything seems normal.

What on earth causes this and is it even know? I've never taken acid or any hallucinated before and i'm as far as i know perfectly sane so what is going on? :s
