Solar power systems can provide all of the electrical needs for your home as long as you have adequate roof space and your home has the proper orientation to the sun. Because of a problem with one or the other of these requirements, many homeowners who would otherwise be interested in solar power have not been able to take advantage of the technology. The installation costs could not be justified in these cases. Some hope has been given to these homeowners in recent years by the increased efficiency and tolerance of sunlight angles of modern solar panels. One common application is with the use of 12 volt batteries and charge controller coupled with a solar panel to make a12 volt solar charger.
These newer solar panels are based on improved solar cell technology and better manufacturing techniques that provide a better solution for all solar power installations. The newer solar cells used in modern panels can offer homeowners better electricity generation than cells that were available even a few years ago because of several different improvements. The primary advantage of the newer solar panels is that they can generate more power from less sunlight. This means that they can be effective at generating energy for longer periods of the day.Because of this, they can be used to produce electricity for more hours per day. Older solar panels needed the sun to hit them more directly and so had a limited range of operation. This meant they would generate little or no electricity early in the morning and late in the afternoon when the sun was striking the solar panel at a steeper angle. They were also intermittent on cloudy or rainy days since even though the sun was shining, it may not have been bright enough for the panels to produce power. These newer panels will help many homeowners justify the cost of installing a Solar Power System because they will generate more power in all levels of sunlight. They can also allow people with homes that have less than perfect alignment with the sun to justify a solar installation because of the additional energy they will produce.
These modern panels will also mean fewer solar panels for the average homeowner to provide 100% of the energy for their house. This also means the solar power system will be less expensive since there will be fewer panels used. This is helpful for homeowners with limited roof space and may enable them to justify a solar power system for their homes. Longevity is the final advantage to the newer solar panels. In a moderate climate, the life of older panels was ten to fifteen years. The panels would generate peak power for about ten years and then degrade over time. This was due to the gradual failure of the solar cells since as these older solar cells aged, they would start to fail. As the cells began to fail, the panel would produce less and less energy. The newer solar cells are more durable and will generate more electricity as well as lasting longer. This makes the investment in solar power technology an even better choice for the homeowner as they will enjoy the benefits of solar electricity for many more years. A great way to save on the cost of solar panels is by building your own home build solar panel.

Eric Moore became interested in renewable energy after building an electric powered bike. Shortly after he began riding the bike to work, he thought, why not recharge the bike's batteries with solar power and commute to work completely free and totally pollution free. He then created a website to share his experience and knowledge with others. For many more articles about home solar power visit: http://www.homesolarandwindinfo.com

That panel is small, and would take weeks to recharge a car battery, which is what you would need to drive the inverter. You would put the panel straight across the battery terminals, with the right polarity. Energy would be wasted in a charge controller at those levels.
Also remember that lead-acid batteries such as car batteries lose a lot of capacity at low temperatures. It might be more practical for you to bring a small gas-powered generator. Those little ones can run for hours on a gallon of gas.
